ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE FOR HYDRAULIC PRESSES

Lower energy consumption, longer service life, and higher safety.

Hydraulic presses gain performance not only through pressing force, cycle time, and stability, but also through energy efficiency and proper maintenance.

In press design and after-sales services, INOTIM adopts a holistic approach focused on low energy consumption, extended component life, and CE/ECM compliance.

1) Energy Efficiency: From Design to Process

⚡ Variable Speed Drive (VSD) & Proportional Valve

  • Flow and tonnage are generated only as needed → idle energy losses are reduced.

  • Smart modulation during pressure build-up and pressure holding phases.

🌡️ Thermal Management and Insulation

  • Heat loss is reduced through insulated oil tanks and hydraulic lines.

  • Oil temperature is maintained between 35–50°C to keep viscosity at an optimum level.

🔄 Standby / ECO Mode

  • During idle periods, the pump switches to low-speed or sleep mode → 15–25% energy savings.

  • Automatic timers can be used to define operating and sleep scenarios.

🛠️ Sealing and Leakage Management

  • Micro-leaks result in both energy loss and quality loss.

  • Periodic inspection of O-rings, hoses, and fittings is essential.

🧪 Oil Selection and Filtration

  • The correct viscosity grade combined with β10≥100 filtration ensures cleaner oil, improving both pump life and efficiency.

  • Condition monitoring can be performed through online particle counting.

🧯 Accumulator Use (Depending on the Application)

  • Accumulators reduce motor and pump load by supporting peak pressure demand.

  • Safety valves and periodic nitrogen pressure checks are essential.

2) Monitoring, Recording, and KPIs

Energy efficiency cannot be managed without measurement. The INOTIM control panel generates standard KPIs such as:

  • kWh/Part and kWh/Cycle

  • Pump Operating Time / Standby Time Ratio

  • Oil Temperature Trends

  • Pressure–Cycle Map with over-/under-pressure warnings

  • Leakage Index based on deviations in filling time

This data is compatible with ISO 50001 energy management and ECM maintenance record systems.

3) Maintenance Schedule (Recommended Plan)

🗓️ Daily

  • Visual inspection of the work area and safety equipment such as the E-Stop and light curtain

  • Check oil level and inspect for abnormal noise or vibration

  • Check pressure and temperature indicators for out-of-limit values

🗓️ Weekly

  • Inspect hoses and fittings for leakage

  • Compare the filter clogging indicator with the pressure gauge readings

  • Clean table/die surfaces and check bolt torque

🗓️ Monthly

  • Filter replacement when required, based on condition, and inspection of the tank breather

  • Functional testing of limit switches, sensors, and cable connectors

  • Scenario testing of ECO/sleep mode and timer functions

🗓️ Every 3 Months

  • Hydraulic oil sample analysis for particles, water, and TAN

  • Vibration and infrared measurements on pumps, motors, couplings, and bearings

  • Check die alignment and stroke limit calibration

🗓️ Every 6 Months

  • Pressure calibration using a reference load cell

  • Accumulator nitrogen pressure and safety valve testing

  • PLC/HMI software backup and event log review

🗓️ Annually

  • Hydraulic oil replacement, which may be extended depending on analysis results

  • Electrical cabinet insulation and grounding tests in accordance with EN 60204-1

  • Complete safety validation according to EN ISO 12100 / EN ISO 13849-1 and CE checklist review

Note: Maintenance intervals are customized by INOTIM engineers according to operating hours, environmental conditions, and press type.

4) Safety and Compliance

Energy savings are never achieved at the expense of safety.

INOTIM presses are CE-compliant and feature two-hand controls, light curtains, safety valves, emergency stops, and guard switches.

All maintenance and energy records are stored digitally in an audit-ready format.

5) Quick Checklist

  • ECO mode and timer active

  • Oil temperature between 35–50°C

  • Filter indicator within normal range

  • No leakage / stable pressure holding

  • Daily and weekly maintenance records completed

  • Last calibration performed < 6 months ago

Conclusion

Proper configuration + intelligent monitoring + planned maintenance =
lower energy costs, higher process reliability, and longer machine life.

INOTIM provides energy efficiency audits, maintenance schedule setup, and calibration support for hydraulic presses.
